WET PLATE COLLODION PHOTOGRAPHY BY PHOTOGRAPHER ZELKO NEDIC

Historically, the popularity of the wetplate process was short-lived .  From its invention by Frederick Scott Archer in 1851 the process flourished until the introduction of dry plates in the early 1880s . Aside from the ever-present safety issues of the process , having a darkroom nearby is the largest hurdle to overcome when attempting wetplate collodion . Collodion process is a very inconvenient form which required the photographic material to be coated , sensitized , exposed and developed within the span of a few minutes , necessitating a portable darkroom for use in the field .Today, a wetplate revival is occurring , sparked largely through interest in Living History and the imaging revolution centered around digital technology. As journalistic, commercial, and amateur photography markets have shifted towards digital, fewer conventional products remain available.  This shift has led some art photographers to rediscover the beautiful wetplate collodion process.

Zeljko Nedic is a photographer with an accomplished portfolio that ranges from highly-stylised fashion portraits to fetishism and period settings. The images bellow are some of his wet plate collodion work.

THE PORTRAIT OF A LADY

What makes women a lady? Why are some women ladies and others are not? I mean, they all have arms and legs and head and fat and bones, but their body parts must be attached differently, because on the outside they do look the same... unless you are able to notice fine details that define who they are.  So it must be from within. The lady holds herself differently because of the way she is on the inside. She is not doing it intentionally, she just is, a lady.

Not that I am a lady, but this beautiful hairdo inspired me to think of a lady.

MAKING OF PICTURE

This photo-shoot was done 6 months ago in Bar Lazio in Balmain and the final picture won Creativity Award for San Pellegrino Cafe Society Photography Competition. The youngest model at the time was only 17 days old.

I love the winter sun. The windows here are on the left. It was just after 3 o'clock, but in this pictures it looks like it was late afternoon.
